Russia-led military bloc planning three major drills this fall
August 29, Pozirk. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) plans to hold three major joint events in September and October, CSTO Chief of Joint Staff Andrei Serdyukov has told journalists.
CSTO rapid reaction forces will train in Kyrgyzstan in the first half of September, while Kazakhstan will host the Unbreakable Brotherhood-2024, the bloc’s peacekeeping drill, in early October, he said. In mid-October, Central Asia’s rapid deployment forces will hold an exercise in Tajikistan, he added.
More than 5,000 servicemen and 900 units of military and special equipment are expected to participate in the three events.
The United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization secretariats as well as officials from Algeria, China, Egypt, India, Iran, India, China, Mongolia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan have been invited to observe the drill in Kyrgyzstan.
The CSTO is a military-political alliance whose declared goals are strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, and protecting its member states’ independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty. It consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
