Russian drone crashes in Latvia after violating Belarusian airspace

September 8, Pozirk. A Russian military drone crashed near Rezekne in eastern Latvia on Saturday after crossing over from Belarusian airspace, the Latvian defense ministry reports.

Latvian authorities are investigating the incident, it said, noting that the NATO chain of command has already been informed.

Riga must keep strengthening its eastern border protections, including expansions of air defenses and electronic warfare capabilities, said Latvia’s Defense Minister Andris Sprūds.

The drone did not have targets in Latvia, according to Leonīds Kalniņš in charge of Latvia’s National Armed Forces.
