(Viasna)

September 30, Pozirk. Rusłan Akostka, a former documented political prisoner, has been evacuated from Belarus, said Andrej Stryžak, co-founder of the Belarus Solidarity Foundation.

He is in a safe location, Stryžak said on Telegram.

The former paratrooper from the Minsk region’s Salihorsk district gained prominence in 2020. On November 15, he walked through Salihorsk with a white-red-white flag to honor Raman Bandarenka, a Minsker who died after being beaten by security officers.

Akostka was arrested on the same day. First, the Salihorsk District Court jailed him for 15 days. While in detention, he was charged with resisting a police officer.

Later, the same court sentenced him to three years in prison.

In April 2022, Akostka was given two more years for allegedly defying prison administration orders.

He was released on July 24, 2024.
