Rubel’s plunge against US dollar continues
November 22, Pozirk. The rubel has depreciated to 3.427 against the US dollar at the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange (BCSE), plunging for the eighth consecutive trading session.
The Belarusian currency also fell to 4.7377 per 10 Chinese yuan but climbed to 3.3635 per 100 Russian rubles.
The rubel has not traded against the European currency and remained at 3.5928 against the euro.
In the outgoing week (November 18–22), the rubel lost 1.39 percent of its value against the dollar, 0.64 percent against the euro and 1.21 percent against the Chinese yuan but gained 0.69 percent against the Russian ruble.
The Belarusian currency lost 4.44 percent of its value against the dollar in the first 10 months of 2024.
Economist Anatol Charytončyk played down fears of rubel depreciation yesterday.
“The dollar does not play a big role in the country today,” the expert stressed. “Export and import payments are mainly made in Russian rubles, and the Belarusian rubel is strengthening against the ruble,” he said.
Charytončyk noted that the rubel has not weakened considerably against the central bank’s basket of currencies, which includes the Russian ruble (60 percent), the US dollar (30 percent) and the Chinese yuan (10 percent).
