December 13, Pozirk. The editor in chief of Mediazona Belarus, Anastasija Bojka, has been awarded the Lithuanian prize Hope of Freedom.

The award ceremony took place today at the Seimas during a forum of Baltic media organizations and exiled Belarusian journalists.

“I would like to thank my Lithuanian colleagues for this award,” Bojka said at the ceremony. “It is very nice that my work and, I hope, the work of Mediazona Belarus has been recognized in this difficult time.”

“Since we are working in exile and journalism has become almost anonymous, I would like to consider this award not as my own, but as an award for every employee at Mediazona Belarus, every journalist, SMM specialist and editor of ours. Every day, these people write about very complicated issues, tell complicated stories and write complicated news,” she added.

The Hope of Freedom prize was established by MP Kazys Starkevičius. It is awarded jointly with Lithuanian journalist organizations.

Belarusian journalists Aleh Hruzdziłovič and Jahor Marcinovič received the award in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Human rights defenders said they had been persecuted for political reasons.
