Switzerland joins new EU sanctions on Belarus
December 23, Pozirk. Switzerland has joined the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) on December 16 against 26 individuals and two companies in Belarus, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs reported.
The EU and Swiss sanctions lists on Belarusian individuals are now identical, it said.
The companies are Vlate Logistik and Ruzekspeditsiya.
The update also includes judges, heads and deputy heads of correctional institutions, as well as the “head of a medical unit in one of these institutions, where a number of political prisoners face inhumane conditions and are subject to abuses.”
Furthermore, the EU and Switzerland have targeted Alaksiej Švakoŭ, chairman of the Belarusian National Bar Association, and nine businessmen, five of whom are linked to the aforementioned companies.
After the Council of the EU imposed the restrictions on December 16, 287 individuals and 40 Belarusian legal entities are under European sanctions.
Two months ago, Switzerland joined the EU’s June sanctions package against Belarus.
