Minsk to repair 90 fallout shelters

March 5, Pozirk. This year, Minsk authorities intend to repair 90 fallout shelters and 23 conventional shelters, according to a document leaked to the BelPol resistance group.
The plan has been approved by Uładzimir Kucharaŭ, chairman of Minsk City Executive Committee.
BelPol also obtained a similar document for 2023. The Minsk city government commissioned experts to examine the civil defense facilities and prepare documentation for the selection of contractors.
In 2015, an emergency ministry official told journalists that Minsk had more than 1,000 operational shelters, including those with the highest rate of protection that cannot be destroyed by a direct hit.
Most are located at large factories. The Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) has the largest shelter with a capacity of about 4,000 people, he noted.
Shelter repairs are taking place as Belarusian officials continue their militaristic rhetoric, with officials warning that Belarus can use Russian tactical nuclear weapons in response to a hypothetical NATO attack.
Alaksandar Łukašenka signed an edict yesterday to streamline procedures for switching civil service to war footing.
