Collections of works by late Łastoŭski and Pietraškievič declared extremist
May 6, Pozirk. A judge has declared extremist “Selected Works. Vacłaŭ Łastoŭski (1997)” and “Selected Works. Aleś Pietraškievič (2017)” from the Biełaruski Knihazbor series at the request of Minsk prosecutors, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
Writer Vacłaŭ Łastoŭski, who stood at the origins of the Belarusian National Republic, was shot in 1938, but later exonerated.
Aleś Pietraškievič (1930-2012) was a Belarusian and Soviet playwright, teacher and man of letters. In 1975-1992 he was the rector of the Minsk Institute of Culture.
According to the annotation to “Selected Works. Aleś Pietraškievič (2017),” in the main section the author tells about his studies at Belarusian State University, his work at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus (with Piotr Mašeraŭ) and at the Belarusian Soviet Encyclopedia (with Piatruś Broŭka and Ivan Šamiakin). The book also contains Pietraškievič’s most interesting history plays.
On March 11, a collection of works by Belarusian classic Vincent Dunin-Marcinkievič was removed from the National Register of Extremist Content.
The Žytkavičy District Court in the Homiel region declared the two-volume edition extremist in November 2023, sparking a public outcry.
