Some prisoners refused to accept Łukašenka pardon – Viasna
July 8, Pozirk. Some of the political prisoners offered release on July 3 refused to accept Alaksandar Łukašenka’s pardon, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
Other prisoners “were offered to be released instead of these people,” it noted.
It added that authorities rushed the release and did not even give some prisoners time to pack.
According to Viasna, 18 political prisoners were released on July 3, including Ryhor Kastusioŭ, the Belarusian Popular Front leader who suffers from cancer.
The names of the others are being withheld by human rights groups for safety reasons.
Łukašenka announced the release of his seriously ill opponents on July 2.
