Artist Hrybaleva says she is free
November 1, Pozirk. Łarysa Hrybaleva, a Belarusian singer and actress, has posted a message on her Facebook account hours after media reported her arrest.
“I am at home, everything is fine,” she said in the message posted at 7 p.m. without elaborating on what happened.
She was arrested yesterday or today, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported earlier today. Security officers also searched her apartment.
Hrybaleva was banned from show business in Belarus earlier this year.
In May, the information ministry issued a warning to AAT EvroPlusTV after it launched a show starring the celebrity. Pro-government Telegram channels speculated at the time that Hrybaleva supported the opposition during the 2020 postelection protests.
Belarus had at least 127 artists and culture figures behind bars on August 31, Belarusian PEN said. Many artists, musicians and performers have fled the country for fear of reprisals.
