Opposition group says Russian spy freed in prisoner swap visited twice

August 2, Pozirk. Pavel Rubtsov, identified by Polish secret services as a Russian agent, was among those handed over to Russia in a prisoner swap yesterday, Belarusian opposition politician Pavieł Łatuška told Pozirk.

Rubtsov worked in Poland and introduced himself as Pablo González, a Spanish journalist of Russian origin. He was arrested in February 2022, according to media reports.

Łatuška said González had visited his National Anti-Crisis Management “at least twice” to interview him for Spanish media. “I testified as a witness in this criminal case.”

According to the Warsaw-based politician, the fact that a Russian agent sat opposite him “at arm’s length” demonstrates the risks for opposition activists and confirms the need for stronger security measures.
