Investigators open criminal case against comedian Kamisaranka

August 16, Pozirk. The Investigative Committee (IC) has announced a special procedure case against Słava Kamisaranka, a stand-up comedian who often jokes about Alaksandar Łukašenka and his policies.

The special procedure allows the government to prosecute its exiled opponents for serious crimes, including terrorism, mercenarism and high treason. Kamisaranka is charged with inciting hatred, as well as defaming and insulting the head of state.

The case was opened yesterday. The IC summonned the comedian to its Minsk department.

A total of 116 citizens have been targeted with special cases so far.

In May, Kamisaranka said that after a performance in Turkey, a Turkish internal affairs officer advised him against mocking that country’s officials.
