Opposition politician promotes creative activism

(Pozirk)

October 18, Pozirk. Alina Koŭšyk of the opposition transition cabinet has urged Belarusians to use creative approaches and non-standard forms of protest, the cabinet’s press office reports.

This tactic is more likely to attract international attention while being less risky for those who use it, she noted.

The politician made her statement at the meeting of the working group on national identity, culture, sports and diaspora activities, set up as a part of the strategic dialogue between the United States and Belarusian pro-democracy forces.

The world can learn about Belarusians’ plight through the art, which may help preserve cultural traditions, effectively counteract reprisals and unite various social groups, Koŭšyk added.

“Cooperation between the United States and Belarusian pro-democracy democratic forces can help support these initiatives and ensure a broader presence of Belarusian issues in the international arena,” she stressed.

Launched in December 2023, the dialogue aims to bring together US government agencies and Belarusian political leaders, civil society leaders and ordinary Belarusians. It is expected to help establish long-term partnerships and strengthen Belarusian independence.
